Le Vieux Couvent seeks new owners...
Artists like to travel to France to paint. We provide these Artists with a home away from home where all they need to think about is their next painting. Le Vieux Couvent takes care of all their needs during a ten day stay. The studio at Le Vieux Couvent is their base, the village and our gardens their inspiration, outings to the many sites s add variety and the group brings their own camaraderie.
This type of holiday appeals to adults, singles and couples. Some may well arrive as strangers yet all already share their common interest in creating art.
During the past twenty years we have developed a rapport with artists worldwide, many of whom like to travel with their students. We provide a comfortable venue accommodating to the individual artist and their own group.
Two groups come per month over the summer season. Typically we are full from May until mid-October. We reserve two weeks mid-season for a staff holiday allowing for ten groups per year.
Le Vieux Couvent can accommodate groups of up to 18 guests onsite within two Gîtes and three chambre d’hôte rooms. The dining room is a suitable size for breakfast and the evening meal and a stunning courtyard is also used for outdoor dining. The large light studio with an airconditioning /heat-pump provides year round confort and the climate of SW France typically allows Guests to enjoy painting plein air most days.
As a business venture, Le Vieux Couvent's success comes from tapping into existing art groups and providing them with a much needed resource. The most common phrase from guests is ' you can't buy this' meaning the holiday industry doesn't meet the particular requirements of artists. At Le Vieux Couvent we try to second guess exactly what will work best for each individual group by consulting with the artist leader. We then tailor make their holiday to suit them. Personal attention is the key.“It’s like staying with a favorite aunt who welcomes you with breakfast and is willing to cook you dinner” is a comment echoed by many.
This area of France is rich with history and charm. Our guests rightly say, there's a painting around every corner. Because guests return home delighted, they tell their friends about us. Hence the business has slowly and surely become self-sustaining.
